About Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council - Welcome Place
”Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council (Welcome Place) welcomes and provides settlement services for refugees and immigrants living in Manitoba. MIIC staff work with diverse (multicultural, multi-linguistic and multi-faith) Manitoba communities to support Privately Sponsored Refugees (PSRs) and other newcomers including permanent residents, immigrants, and individuals without status.
MIIC offers the following key services:
• welcomes and assists newcomers to adjust to life in Manitoba and Canada.
• orients newcomers to services provided to all citizens as well as settlement services directed specifically to all refugees/immigrants.
• develops comprehensive and continuing educational and training programs to familiarize clients with the skills needed to adjust and succeed in daily life in Manitoba/Canada.
• enhances and provides positive experiences and increase potential to contribute to and enrich Manitoba's social fabric and economy.
• provides an environment that allows newcomers to settle in, raise their families, and eventually invest in Manitoba.
• temporary accommodations at Welcome Place Residence.
Created post-war, the agency has over 70 years of history of sustainability and growth dealing with arrivals from around the world. Governed by a multi-faith volunteer Board the agency mobilizes resources from government and the general community to deliver high quality services to help integrate refugees/immigrants into Canadian society. Under the direction of the Board the agency monitors government policies and attitudes towards refugees/immigrants and works cooperatively with federal, provincial, and non-government agencies which are concerned for the welfare of refugees/immigrants. The agency ensures, through its programming and community connections with other like-minded and specialized agencies, that refugees and immigrants access and receive services that are necessary and appropriate for individual and family needs.
MIIC works in partnership with various ethnocultural communities of newcomers, provincial and federal services that include education, health, legal, social services, private business, and the community at large.
